The CAC Office on Aging is a public nonprofit agency. It has the major responsibility in Knoxville and Knox County of planning for services for senior citizens; assessing needs of older citizens and developing resources to meet those needs; coordinating services for the elderly to minimize duplication and avoid overlap–whether provided by public, nonprofit, or for-profit organizations; providing information about services and programs to older citizens and their families and connecting them to those services; and advocating on behalf of older citizens.
The Senior Service Directory is available at no charge to anyone who needs it. If this directory is useful to you or to your loved one, please thank the generous sponsors who have made the Knoxville Senior Resources guide possible!
NOTE: If you or a relative is in an age-related crisis or planning for later years, the Knox County Office on Aging's Action Guide offers essential information to help. For immediate needs, please refer to the list of Important Numbers.
Have you ever wanted a quick Elderly Resources reference for aging-in-place issues? Are you wondering how to incorporate some aesthetically pleasing designs into your projects? If so, the Aging-In-Place Design Checklist from the National Home Builders Association might be of assistance.
The checklist contains features you may want to consider for your next new construction or renovation project. It also provides a quick reference for various aging-in-place issues. Because this list is not comprehensive or designed according to specific patient needs, it’s best to also consult with Adapt & Stay, a certified Aging-in-Place Specialist.
NFPA's Emergency Evacuation Planning Guide for People with Disabilities provides information on the five general categories of disabilities (mobility, visual, hearing, speech, and cognitive) and the four elements of evacuation information that occupants need: notification, way finding, use of the way, and assistance. It also includes a checklist that building services managers and people with disabilities can use to design a personalized evacuation plan, as well as government resources and text based on the relevant code requirements and ADA criteria. This guide was developed by the Disabilities Access Review and Advisory Committee (DARAC).
