Martha is an Occupational Therapist (OT) with over 30 years of experience in multiple clinical settings. Her extensive background allows her to assess both the physical and cognitive needs of her clients, ensuring a strong foundation for developing customized plans to help individuals adapt their homes and maintain independence.
Martha began her OT career in 1992 in a long-term nursing facility in Central Kentucky. She later moved to East Tennessee, where she gained invaluable experience working in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, long-term care facilities, home health care, outpatient services, and the public school system. These diverse clinical experiences have equipped her to serve clients of all ages, from young individuals to those aging in place.
While working in home health care, Martha recognized a crucial gap—many individuals could remain independent longer if they had expert guidance in adapting and remodeling their homes. She began researching innovative home modification solutions and pursued specialized certifications to expand her expertise. She is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) through the National Home Builders Association, holds an Executive Certificate in Home Modification Programs (ECHM) from the University of Southern California’s Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, and is a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) accredited by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP). Additionally, she has received specialized dementia caregiver training through the Skills2Care program at Thomas Jefferson University, making her one of only two professionals in Tennessee with this distinction.
Martha is actively involved in professional organizations such as the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), the Tennessee Occupational Therapy Association (TNOTA), and the Home Modification Occupational Therapy Alliance (HMOTA). Her dedication to ongoing education and professional development ensures that she remains at the forefront of adaptive and rehabilitative strategies for aging in place.
She is also a Certified Home Accessibility Therapist (CHAT) and a Driving Rehab Specialist (DRS), further enhancing her ability to assess and support individuals in maintaining their mobility and independence.
